School Update from Mr. Holden, 09/14/26
Dear MCS Families,
With one month of the school year officially in the books and Fall Break only 3 weeks away, I want to take a moment to reflect on how far Maryville Christian School has come.
Just last week, I came across an old photograph dated September 14, 1998, of the land MCS currently sits on, and it was a powerful reminder of our history and of how far the Lord has brought us.
I am incredibly thankful for the families, faculty, staff, churches, businesses, and other supporters who have invested in MCS throughout the years. What began with families trusting the Lord and coming together around a shared vision has grown into the community we have today.
MCS was established through dependence on the Lord, unwavering faith in Him, and a desire to provide a place where children could learn, grow, and be discipled in Christ. MCS is more than a name, a campus, or a collection of buildings. MCS is a community united by a shared mission: to point students to Christ so that they will ultimately impact the world for Him.
Looking back reminds us of our past and gives us perspective on where we are headed in the future. It also raises an important question: How can we honor that mission today?
Over the past several months, many of you have asked, “How can we help?” I believe there are three meaningful ways:
1. Pray
Talking to God may seem like a simple request, but the power of prayer is undeniable. Prayer will always be our greatest need. Please pray for our students, faculty, staff, families, leadership, needs, and the future of MCS. Pray that we remain faithful to the Lord and the mission He has entrusted to us.
2. Give your time and talents.
There are many practical ways to serve our school community. We are planning MCS Work Days throughout the year to help with landscaping, cleaning, campus upkeep, and minor building projects.There are also potential opportunities beyond our facilities; we would love for you to get involved.Our school is strongest when we use our individual gifts to serve together.
3. Consider giving financially
I also want to be transparent about a current need.Many of the HVAC units serving our campus are original, and we are thankful to have received nearly 30 years of service from many of them. Unfortunately, repairs and replacements are becoming increasingly necessary.We had a small reserve established for these needs, but two units have required complete replacement in just the last month, nearly depleting that reserve.As we anticipate additional repairs and replacements, we are asking those who can to consider helping us rebuild this reserve.
A community can only come together to meet a need when it knows what the need is. My hope is not simply to address HVAC repairs or campus projects, but to see our MCS community come together to care for the school we love and faithfully carry forward its mission.
Those who came before us prayed, sacrificed, served, gave, and trusted the Lord. We now have the privilege of continuing their legacy.
If you have a skill, resource, idea, or simply a willingness to serve, I would love to hear from you. I am always willing to sit down with families to discuss ways they can become more involved in the life and future of MCS.
When I reflect on that photograph from September 14, 1998, I am reminded once again that MCS began with people who believed that what they were building was bigger than themselves, especially the Wallace-Houston family who donated the land. I am deeply thankful for those who came before us, and for the community we have today. As current families, we have the unique opportunity to honor our history, live out our shared mission, and invest faithfully in current and future students.Thank you for being part of the MCS community and for helping us keep our eyes fixed on the One who has been faithful from the very beginning.
