Drama opportunities are offered as an extra-curricular activity at MCS. In the past few years, the middle and high school students have presented a play during the fall at a local theater, Capitol Theatre. Among the plays presented are Just Another High School Play, Cheaper by the Dozen, The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet, and Fractured. In addition, students in kindergarten through sixth grade have had the opportunity to participate in fall musicals such as Agape League, Race to Win, and Not Your Average Joe.
Each spring a major drama production is presented with involvement from students in grades kindergarten through 12th. During the spring of 2014, students presented Disney's The Little Mermaid Jr. at the Clayton Center for the Arts. It was a huge success and led to preparations for the next performance. The spring of 2015 showcased Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr., and in the spring of 2016 our students presented Peter Pan Jr. More recent performances have included Mary Poppins and Singin' in the Rain Jr.
Our drama performances are sponsored by Allcor Staffing. Over 75 students spend months practicing while costumes and props are prepared by generous parent and grandparent volunteers. These performances provide an opportunity for the gifts and talents of our special students to be displayed. Thank you to all of our parents, grandparents, students, staff, volunteers, and community friends who make these productions possible or who support us by attending a performance!
