First grade is an amazing journey. Over the course of the year, your child will learn many new skills that will open unlimited doors for them. Students will step closer to being responsible, independent learners.
As parents, you are your child’s first teacher and we want to partner with you throughout the course of the year. Your child will begin establishing learning habits that will last them their entire educational journey. By helping your first grader learn good study skills, develop a homework routine, and learn to value always striving to do their best, you are helping them on their journey.
At MCS, our first grade classrooms center around helping students see the world through a Biblical worldview. We strive to help the students learn to walk with the Lord each day of their journey. Each week, we memorize God’s Word and how to apply it to our lives through daily Bible lessons and weekly chapel programs.
Our reading program centers on a balanced approach that combines decoding skills, comprehension, phonics, and creative writing. Our math program helps our students go beyond simple memorization to understanding of the mathematical processes. Children love our science program which engages students in hands-on experiences with a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) projects.
Extracurricular activities are embedded into the school day including P.E., art, music, library, technology, and Spanish.
As your child leaves first grade, they are prepared for the next step of the educational journey. Together with parents, students become successful learners.
