THE ART PROGRAM AT
MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
Currently at MCS art is taught for those students in grades kindergarten thru 12th grades. In the elementary classes, art is taught once a week. The students will be talking about art, (learning about artists, artworks, materials, techniques and processes), creating art, (practicing new skills, following instructions, exploring real and imaginary art and having fun) and thinking about art (understanding the elements and principles in artworks, discussing the ideas and moods in artworks and evaluating the characteristics and merits of artworks)! The classes will be experimenting with a variety of materials and processes, based on the availability of resources in the school, such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpting, and Printmaking. The lessons will be centered on the Tennessee State Curriculum Standards for Art, focusing on the identification and implementation of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. But, most importantly, all of the projects will integrate concepts from key verses in God's Holy Word! Each nine week grading period will have a theme. Last year themes were: "Faith, Hope, Peace, and Love."
