MARYVILLE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ORCHESTRA
The Maryville Christian School Orchestra was begun in 2005 under the direction of Mr. Michael Bradam. In a very short time, the
orchestra has grown to include over 40 members. The MCS Orchestra is very unique. Mr. Bradam has developed a curriculum in which he teaches string and wind instruments together from day one. Most instrumental programs teach strings and winds separately. By learning together, the students are used to each other and develop an extremely well-rounded basis in music instruction, and the students perform better as they are used to each other.
Students at MCS can begin playing in the orchestra in fifth grade and can continue playing through middle and high school. From day one, the students are used to the full sound of an orchestra and learn as a team. Students begin in the orchestra choosing to play violin, cello, trumpet, flute, clarinet, or trombone. As students progress through the program, they can branch out to other orchestral instruments in the middle school, and can choose to learn guitar, drums, and keyboards in the praise band class in high school. The orchestra provides the ground work for being exposed to many instruments and reading music that the students will benefit from as they progress in the program.
